Plane flight and layover in Chicago, Hermana Beasley, First Day in the Field, and placing my first Book of Mormon

EL CAMPO BLANCO,
I CAN SEE IT!
We made it. We are in Des Moines, Iowa. Nine missionaries left this morning at 4 o' clock this morning, 5 ENGLISH ELDERS, 3 SPANISH ELDERS, and HERMANA BEASLEY (a SPANISH SISTER).
We made it to the airport safely and then I called my family. I waited til, or I was the last one to make a phone call. Everyone sounded good. It was hard to talk to siblings because I couldn't think of what to say. We flew from Salt Lake to Chicago O'Hare Airport. I was ecstatic, and then to see Lago Michigan, I wasn't expecting to see such a big lake next to Chicago, nor the Chicago horizon.
In the airport, we had an hour lay over. A member from Vernal, Utah spotted us waiting in line to get lunch and she bought us lunch, all 9, coming to about $84. That was nice of her. Not only that but an African American lady wished us good luck.
Oh, and in the SLC airport a young woman, probably around 20-24 sat against the wall and spoke with us. She said she was in the army and that she is trying to live the gospel so much. Not only that, but Elder MacCay, who is the other Spanish missionary was able to relate so well with her. today is his 20th birthday. I think he was put there for that purpose, to strengthen the testimony of the young lady.

Chicago airport is big. I couldn't believe it how nice it was, or seeing it. We had the smallest plane, though. Most of us missionaries sat in the back. I comforted Hermana Beasley who was having trouble on the first plane ride, and I got to know her. We sat in back of puerto riqueños and somewhat made friends with them. Elder Delgado gave her a pass-a-long card.
We finally landed in IOWA. So much green but also overgrown with lakes and mud. We got out of the plane and the first thing we noticed was humidity and, well, I didn't feel that bad; it probably could have been a whole lot worse, I think.
And then we got to the stairs and there they were, the Mission President, President Talbot, Sister Talbot, and 4 other elders. I almost made the mistake of hugging Sister Talbot. We got our luggage and headed to McDonalds. Later, they gave us instruction about the mission. Money, cards, homes, cars, mail, nametags, etc. etc.

Then we went tracting for the first time in the field. The Spanish ZONE LEADERS came; one from California and the other from Mexico. And the three of us went to an area of high hispanic influence. We split up into two and 3. Elder Delgado, the CA missionary and I went up the street. We bumped into a lady from El Salvador and a person who was dropping off kids to watch. CA shared all he knew and got an appointment with the MAN and Elder Delgado and I spoke with the Lady and Elder Delgado gave the Book of Mormon to her. I couldn't believe it! We stopped by several other houses, sending pass along cards to a black family and then it was my turn and I sort of screwed up talking and instead of making it brief I made it longer and CA Elder saved me. But we did talk to a Mexican and CA Elder told me to ask him to read the Book of Mormon. Elder Delgado was having an awesome conversation and so I interjected and asked and he said he would read 3 Nefi 11. Awwwwwwwww! Wow-o-wow! I placed my first Book of Mormon.
Dinner-Testimony Meeting-I talked about a song that's only in the Spanish Hymn Book #88.
I had an interview with President Talbot. It was wonderful. I have a trainer/companion to look forward to tomorrow. He also gave me a blessing of comfort and strengthened my faith.
